Soccer in Europe
As time passed, soccer slowly came to Europe. Europe later became the place where modern soccer started. In the Middle Ages, soccer was mixed with stories and history. One popular type of the game, called “Mob Soccer,” was played by whole villages and was very wild
There was no limit to the number of players, but they had to be from the same village or town. Each team tried to kick the ball to a certain place and protect their own side. The ball was made from a pig’s bladder or from leather filled with different materials. Many people ran, kicked, and pushed each other while trying to move the ball to their goal.

Soccer Grows Popular
Even though the game was banned, soccer started to grow in medieval England. Later, it was played in English schools to help students stay healthy. Because soccer became popular in these schools, people decided to make organized competitions in the 19th century.
In 1862, a man named Cobb Morley started a soccer club in Barnes called the Barnes Club. He is known as the father of soccer because he helped create the Football Association. He also wrote the Laws of the Game — the first rules that explained how soccer should be played..
